"The jawan identified as Head Constable Barghveer Singh of the 145 battalion of BSF fell from a portable stair while carrying out fence repair work near a forward post in Mandi area of Poonch," a police official said.
"He accidentally slipped from the stair and fell on the wires resulting in serious injured to his torso and thighs. He died on the spot even before he could be shifted to hospital," the official said.
Pakistani Army had resorted to unprovoked firing from across the Line of Control in Sabjian and Mandi sub sector in Poonch district on Thursday resulting in injuries to six civilians. The injured were later evacuated and shifted to hospital by the army.
"The Indian side too had retaliated to the unprovoked firing", the spokesman said.
