The teenage son of a BSNL official who went missing under mysterious circumstances from Dehradun on Saturday was rescued today from his kidnappers and five of his abductors including a woman were arrested.
Harshit Tayal was rescued unharmed from Kankhal police station area of Haridwar and five of his abductors of whom three including a woman belong to the same family were arrested, ADG (Law and order) Ram Singh Meena told PTI.
The abductors have been identified as Sanjay Baliyan, Meenakshi, Ashis (who belong to the same family), Daniel and Sharanjit.
The case was cracked after the calls received by the abducted boy's family from his kidnappers demanding Rs 5 crore as ransom were traced, he said.
Harshit, a class 12 student and the son of a BSNL official posted in Muzaffarnagar town of Uttar Pradesh had gone missing from GMS road in Dehradun on Saturday night when he had gone out to have his mobile phone recharged.
When his family received a call asking for a sum of Rs 5 crore as ransom for his release, authorities here realised he had been kidnapped.
Giving details of the manner in which the boy was kidnapped, DIG Sanjay Gunjyal told reporters here that Meenakshi met Harshit at the mobile recharge shop and asked for a lift on his two-wheeler.
However, she asked him to stop in a deserted area under some excuse where her accomplices joined her and forced Harshit into a car and sped away.
