The delegation, comprising Leader of Opposition in the state Legislative Assembly and Council, Swami Prasad Maurya and Naseemuddin Siddiqui in the memorandum said that during the Samajwadi Party government, there have been around 40 cases, involving ruining of Dr Ambedkar's statue while the offenders have not yet been caught.
Recalling the incident of former UP chief minister and BSP supremo Mayawati's statue being vandalised in Lucknow in July last, the memorandum said that despite assurances from the Governor and Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav soon after that, such cases have not stopped.
The party demanded adequate security around the Dalit icon statues in Lucknow, Noida, Badalpur and Gautam Budh Nagar districts besides proper maintenance and power supply at all such places.
