Thousands of Buddhists, mostly belonging to Chakma tribe, today thronged the streets of the capital town here in protest against the terror strike at Bodh Gaya.
They gathered at the Swami Vivekanada Stadium from different parts of the state and organised a peace rally. They later submitted a memorandum to Governor Devananda Konwar demanding increase in security at Bodh Gaya and other Buddhist shrines of the country.
A delegation led by Dharmapriya Bhante, a monk of the 'Buddha Mandir' here, submitted the memorandum to the Governor and condemned the incident as an act of cowardice.
Tripura, with a population of roughly 37 lakhs, is home to about one lakh Buddhists.
