The driver, Sandeep Jagtap (30), of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus which was coming towards Thane from Arnala in Vasai of neighbouring Palghar district, jumped the signal last evening at Bramhand crossing on Ghodbunder Road here despite the police signalling him to stop.
Upon suspicion, police Sub-Inspector Sachin Shinde chased the bus to a certain distance and apprehended the driver, Thane's Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Dr Rashmi Karandikar said.
During examination, the driver was found to be heavily drunk, she said.
Later, the driver was arrested and offences were registered against him by Kapurbawdi police under relevant sections of the Motor Vehicle Act, police said.
