The proprietor of a private firm in Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh has been arrested for allegedly placing a fake order with a businessman at Bandlaguda area, causing him a loss of Rs 40 lakh.
Accused Mohammed Ateeq Ahmed allegedly created a fake email ID in July 2012 and sent an email to Mohammed Anwar, proprietor of Arbaz Traders at Bandlaguda area here, asking him to supply a consignment of buffalo horn plates to an address in Luxembourg, said police in a release today.
Accordingly, Anwar sent the buffalo horn plates by courier.
But in October 2012, he received an email that persons at the given address in Luxembourg had refused to take delivery of the stock as they had never placed any order with Anwar's company, the release said.
Later, on Anwar's complaint, a case was registered by the Cyber Crime Police of Cyberabad Commisionerate under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
During investigation, it was found that a fake email address was created to place the order. It was found that the IP address belonged to Mohammed Ateeq Ahmed, after which the Cyber Crime Police went to UP and seized his computer's hard disk. The Forensic Science Laboratory report proved that he had created the fake email address and mail content, the police said.
It was found that Anwar and Ahmed hail from the same village and both run the same business.
After the complainant stopped business dealings with the accused, he placed fake placement orders in order to take revenge, the release said.
