The Election Commission today announced bypoll to a Rajya Sabha seat from Gujarat which fell vacant following the demise of Congress member Pravin Rashtrapal earlier this month.
The bye-election will take place on June 11 along with biennial elections to 57 Rajya Sabha seats falling vacant between June and August.
Rashtrapal died of a cardiac arrest here on May 12.
The notification will be issued on May 24 and the election along with counting will take place on June 11, the Commission said.
Out of 11 RS seats in Gujarat, BJP has 8 while Congress has two. One Congress-occupied seat fell vacant after the death of Rashtrapal.
