"The State Minor Forest Produce (Trading and Development) Co-operative Federation had launched the scholarship programmes for children of tendu leaves collector last year," a government spokesperson said today.
"So far scholarship to the tune of Rs 5.77 crore has been given to 48,198 students," he added.
In the financial year 2014-15, 26,707 students were provided scholarship worth Rs 3.20 crore while Rs 2.57 core was distributed to 21,491 students in the first quarter of the current fiscal 2015-16, he added.
Besides, the meritorious children of tendu leaf collectors were given scholarship under 'Shiksha Protsahan' scheme for pursuingprofessional courses like engineering, medical, law, MBA and nursing.
Under this programme, the select students would be provided a cashscholarshipof up to Rs 25,000 from Rs 10,000.
One student each would be selected from each of the Primary Minor Forest Produce Co-operative Society area and selected students would get ascholarshipof Rs 10,000 in the first year and Rs 5,000 each in the next subsequent three years until the completion of the course,the spokesperson added.
