Call off strike, boycott by July 22 or face disqualification:

Issuing an ultimatum to various bar associations in Tamil Nadu to call off boycott of courts and strikes, the Bar Council of India (BCI) today said they would face disqualification if they did not do so by by July 22.
Mannan Kumar Mishra, BCI Chairman, in his order, said even after repeated requests some Bar Associations in Tamil Nadu had still not called off or withdrawn strikes, boycotts or abstentions. The situation was alarming and the Bar's image was being tarnished to a great extent due to such unruly advocates.
Bar Councils and Bar Associations are being criticised, not only by the judiciary and the government but also by majority of the legal fraternity and public at large, he said.

BCI directed Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry to earmark and communicate the names of all leaders/office bearers of the striking bar associations to the office of Bar Council of India, latest by July 22 so that necessary orders of suspension and Disqualification could be passed.
BCTP was further directed to convene a press meet by July 21 in this regard and directed to communicate this order to all bar associations in Tamil Nadu.
