Campaign seeking ban on Sikh jokes gaining momentum: DSGMC

A campaign seeking a ban on Sikh jokes has found wide support with more than 70,000 people having signed a petition to press the demand, Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) today claimed.
An online petition demanding a ban on jokes ridiculing the Sikh community has gained momentum worldwide, DSGMC, which started the campaign, said in a statement here.
The petition has received more than 27,000 signatures online and around 45,000 signatures offline, it added.
"We expect to have 1,00,000 signatures by the end of December," said DSGMC President Manjit Singh GK.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is among those who have signed the petition, which has also been supported by the Church of North India.
Also, comedians Gurpreet Ghuggi and Sunil Pal have signed the online petition.
The statement added that started on November 3, 2015, this petition has got all-round support. It said that students of 18 Sikh educational institutions in Delhi -- Guru Harkishan Public Schools -- have been enthusiastic in supporting and signing the petition.
