BJP today sprang a surprise by fielding former Congress MLA T Jayaprakash Reddy as its candidate as he joined the saffron party today.
Jayaprakash Reddy, popularly known as Jagga Reddy, was with BJP earlier. He is supported by BJP's alliance partner TDP in the by-election, necessitated by the resignation of TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao after he became the Chief Minister. Medak is Rao's home district.
Congress announced former minister Sunita Laxma Reddy as its candidate.
The ruling TRS has already named K Prabhakar Reddy, a businessman, as its nominee.
The candidates of TDP-BJP, Congress, and TRS filed their nominations on the last day today.
