The 54-year-old actor has been cast as Maggie Sawyer's father, who is also a cop, reported Entertainment Weekly.
Bernard's casting comes after Alex proposed to Maggie in the season two finale and as Floriana Lima, who plays Maggie, has transitioned from series regular to a recurring character on the superhero series.
"I don't think so. If any character people love is not there as much as they want them there, they're going to be upset that they're not. For my perspective, I'd say we will use her as much as we can," said "Supergirl" executive producer on whether or not Lima's transition would be noticeable to viewers.
