Hyderabad Police today booked a case against an English weekly magazine including its Editor-in-Chief and others for allegedly carrying defamatory and objectionable remarks against a woman IAS officer.
Based on the complaint of Akun Sabharwal, an IPS officer and Director of Telangana's Drugs Control Administration and husband of IAS officer Smita Sabharwal, a case was registered against the weekly under section 509 (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of IPC and under relevant sections of IT Act and Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition Act) 1986, police said.
The case was booked against the magazine's management and some employees for printing and publishing "indecent" caricature in its satirical snippet carried in its July 6, 2015 issue, it said.
Smita is Additional Secretary to the Telangana Chief Minister.
