The case was registered under section 3(1) of Delhi Prevention of Defacecament of Property Act of 2007, Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat said. "The case has been registered against unknown persons," he said.
Section 3(1) of the Act provides for an imprisonment upto one year and a fine upto Rs 50,000 if anybody is found guilty of defacing any property in public view by writing or marking with ink, chalk, paint or any other material.
Around 100 Team Anna supporters, including girls, had on staged a protest outside Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's residence on Race Course Road last Saturday.
Some of the protesters had defaced the wall and threw coal inside the premises.
Police immediately rushed to the spot and detained the protesters.
Protesters were also seen trying to climb the gates of the well-secured residence but police prevent them from doing so.
They also wrote slogans against the Prime Minister on the roads as well as on the wall of the residence.
