A case of abetment to suicide was lodged by Rudraprayag district police against a Congress MLA and nine others on the basis of a complaint lodged by the wife of a businessman who allegedly committed suicide in Guptkashi recently.
The Guptkashi-based businessman allegedly committed suicide on September 20 by consuming poison.
As per an FIR lodged by his wife, 10 persons, including the MLA, took huge amounts as loan from him but did not repay despite repeated reminders.
A suicide note furnished to the police by the businessman's wife said he took the extreme step as his borrowers did not repay the loan, Rudraprayag police said.
According to the deceased businessman's wife, the MLA had allegedly taken Rs 42 lakh as loan from him.
Non-payment of huge loans taken by the ten persons named in the FIR including the MLA had driven the businessman to take the extreme step, they said.
