Cash-strapped North Delhi Municipal Corporation today presented its financial condition before the NDMC's standing committee, requesting that Rs 2,630 crore be released, which it claimed is "due" from the Delhi government.
In a statement, the civic body said, the panel's chairman Tilak Raj Kataria has written a letter to the Centre, saying, "Rs 2,630 is due to the NDMC from the Delhi government".
"He also sought from the Centre that the amount be directly sent to it, and later the central government should deduct that from the share of revenue sent by the Centre to the Delhi government," the statement said.
The civic officials said the financial condition of the corporation has been bad since the trifurcation of the MCD in 2012.
According to the presentation, the deficit of the north corporation in the first two years after the trifurcation was Rs 514 cores and Rs 885 crore respectively.
Sources said the NDMC will request for a meeting with Lt Governor Anil Baijal, seeking the release of the funds.
The corporations will also present a "white paper" on the financial condition of the civic body soon, they said.
