A total of 550 cows and 500 buffaloes were put up for sale and all of them were bought by buyers from Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala, shandy organisers said.
Farmers from Erode, Madurai, Theni, Karur, Namakkal and Salem districts sold their cows and buffaloes in the auction that concluded around 8 pm last night, Manager of the shandy Murugan said.
"For the first time, such a heavy arrival of 550 cows and 500 buffaloes was recorded and all the cattle were sold for high price," he said.
More than 300 cows were sold for Rs 40,000 each and as many as 250 buffaloes got bids of Rs 36,000 each.
Usually during this season farmers sell their old cattle and buy new ones, Murugan added.
