CBI arrests Service Tax official in bribery case

A Superintendent of Service Tax Commissionerate here was arrested by the CBI for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 1.50 lakh for relaxing tax demand of a travel and tours company.
Anil Aggarwal was arrested when he was allegedly receiving the bribe from the company owner, CBI said.
It was alleged that Aggarwal was demanding the bribe of Rs 2.5 lakh for not raising a demand for service tax liability of his tour and travel company, a CBI spokesperson said here today.
She said a case was registered under the provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
"CBI laid a trap and the accused was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe of Rs 1.50 lakh from the complainant," she said.
Searches were conducted at the office and residential premises of the accused which led to recovery of fixed deposit receipts of Rs 35 lakh (approx) and documents of immovable properties at Dwarka and Rajendra Place, Delhi.
