CBSE conducts survey on ragging

Amid the ongoing discussions about the Scindia School ragging case, the Central Board of Secondary Education has conducted a survey which will include views of both students as well as teachers on the issue.
The survey aims to cover all perspectives on ragging, ill-treatment, physical assault and seeks a solution for the problem.
A 14-year-old student was found in an unconscious state on August 20 evening at his school's hostel room in Gwalior. His father alleged that he was harassed in school and suspected foul play.
"Some questions were prepared for both teachers and students which were sent to them through email. They were asked to respond and express their views. The procedure has been going on for quite some time", a senior CBSE official said.

CBSE has collected statistics based on the questions regarding students' misbehaviour, foul language, ragging and related activities, and will come up with preventive measures, he said.
The students were asked about the number of times they were physically, verbally, and psychological ill-treated by other students, the official said.

They were also asked about specifics like at which place, bus stop, cafeteria, school corridor, they faced such misbehaviours, he said.
The CBSE has also asked them whether they ignored the incident or fled the scene of ragging, or tried stopping such incidents.
They were also asked whether they reported the incident to their teachers, schoolheads or their parents, he said.

CBSE also asked questions from school teachers and officials regarding the issue.
They were asked what kind of misbehaviour they have witnessed about other students, ranging from mild clashes to students threatening each other or resorting to abusive language, the official said.
They were asked about the measures school authorities take or should take in such situations, also what steps must be taken to improve students' behaviour, he said.
