Deputy Commissioner (DC) A B Ibrahim has directed the temple authorities in the Dakshina Kannada district to take steps to install closed circuit TV's in all major temples by July 10.
He said no compromise would be made regarding the security of the temples and security of the valuables in temples would be ensured.
Detailed inventory would be maintained in the temples as per the guidelines issued by the Commissioner of endowment department. Registered evaluators in Dakshina Kannada would be deployed to assess the value of the jewels and a copy of the catalog would be kept in the office of the Deputy Commissioner, a statement said.
The district administration would issue guidelines to the police department to ensure that the police on duty kept strict vigil on the temples under their jurisdiction, it said.
The temples with safe rooms should ensure that staff in charge did not misuse the valuables. The temples must compulsorily appoint two watchmen during night. Accepted regulations should be followed while appointing security personnel to safeguard the temples, the statement said.
The temples in the State are divided into A, B and C categories based on their income.
Temples with an annual revenue above Rs 25 lakh per year fall under the A category, between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 25 lakh in the B category and those whose income is less than Rs 10 lakh are in the C category.
There are 21 'A' category, 37 'B' category and 433 'C' category temples in Dakshina Kannada district.
