The Cabinet Committee on Security today deferred its meeting to discuss the recommendations of the Naresh Chandra committee, which has suggested creation of a General-rank officer to advise the government on matters related to the three Services.
The meeting was scheduled to discuss the Naresh Chandra Committee report recommendations but it was deferred as the Government did not want to take any policy decisions in its last days, Government sources told PTI here.
The proposal for implementation of the recommendations was moved by the National Security Council Secretariat headed by the National Security Adviser, they said.
The Committee had suggested reforms in the higher defence management of the country and submitted its report to the Government two years ago.
According to the Committee report, a post of Permanent Chairman, Chiefs of Staffs Committee should be created who will be a four-star officer tasked to deal with issues of the three services and on full-time basis, carry out the role of the present COSC.
Former Navy Chief Admiral D K Joshi had stated that all the three services have agreed upon the need for creating the Permanent, Chairman of COSC as a "stop gap" arrangement till the time the government decides upon creating the post of CDS.
On the issue of appointing a permanent COSC, the Defence Ministry has stated that no hasty decision will be taken on appointing a four-star officer as views of other political parties would also be taken on the issue.
