As part of efforts to keep touts at bay, the administration in Odisha's Koraput district has decided to install CCTV cameras in the district regional transport office (RTO).
It will also install a biometric attendance machine to ensure officials maintain the office timings. The district administration office has the dubious distinction of employees coming late to work and touts in large numbers loitering around the office building.
The move to resolve these issues followed a recent surprise visit by district collector Jaya Kumar V to the office. The collector found many irregularities, including upkeep of the office, lack of drinking water facilities and irregularities in conducting driving tests for both learning and permanent licences.
"The RTO has been asked to install CCTV cameras on the offices premises and a biometric attendance machine at the office," said Kumar.
The collector also saw a large number of touts present on the office premises when he arrived. He noticed that some of these agents even have offices just outside the building and were bunches of driving licenses issued by the office.
Taking cognisance of this, Kumar asked the officials concerned to throw out touts from the RTO office with a strict warning against entering again.
"Driving licenses are supposed to be posted to the address of the license holders, but the RTO officials are handing them over to the agents instead of the people concerned," he said.
"Officials have been directed to ensure that visitors face no inconvenience at the office," he added.
