"A Rs 14 crore plan has been sanctioned for Puducherry for dredging which includes Rs 7 crore contribution by Puducherry government and the remaining Rs 7 crore will be borne by the Ministry of Shipping," Shipping, Road Transport and Highways Minister Gadkari said.
The plan includes ferry services from Chennai to Thiruvananthapuram via Puducherry and Kanyakumari, he said, adding that the concerned governments have been asked to construct jetties.
"We are ready to give 50 per cent subsidy for constructing jetties," the minister said, adding that the projects will boost not only connectivity between the places but would promote tourism in the area.
