"The Kashmiris are identified as militants and separatists. But this is not true. This is an insult to the Kashmiris. We are also Indians and want to be treated like other Indians," Tarigami said while addressing a programme here.
"Everybody talks about the unrest in Kashmir. But if you want to understand the unrest in Kashmir, you have to understand the root cause of the problem. The unrest in Kashmir is the result of broken promises and commitments made to the people of Kashmir during its accession of Kashmir, and in the years that followed," he said.
As many as 85 people, including two policemen, have been killed and several thousand others injured in the unrest in the Valley. Around 5000 security forces personnel have also been injured in clashes.
"Successive governments at the Centre have tried to use the Kashmir unrest and problems in the valley such as militancy for their own political gains. In this political mudslinging, the worst affected has been Kashmir and its people. Recently several people were killed and injured in pellet gun firing, but we have not heard a single word from the PM condemning the killing of the innocent people in the Valley. The sense of alienation is very deep among the common people of Kashmir," the sole CPI(M) MLA in J&K said.
"After the all-party delegation went to Kashmir under Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, it was suggested that a political dialogue with all the stakeholders would be initiated to resolve the crisis. But till now nothing has started. The situation in valley is worsening with every passing minute. Immediate initiation of a political dialogue with all stakeholders in is required," he said.
