The Centre today sought a report from the West Bengal government over controversial comments of Trinamool Congress MP Tapas Pal who allegedly threatened to kill CPI(M) workers and have their women raped.
"We have sought a report from the West Bengal government on the comments of the MP. We have asked them to give complete information about his speech, where it was made, how many people were present and its repercussions," a Home Ministry official said.
We are expecting the detailed report within a day or two, he added.
The controversial comment had triggered an uproar and sparked condemnation by opposition parties with CPI-M demanding the Lok Sabha Speaker to take suo motu cognisance of Pal's outburst and disqualify him.
TMC MP's wife Nandini today apologised for her husband's controversial comment and said there was another part of the story.
Trinamool Congress leadership today asked the MP to tender an unconditional apology for his comments. After which Pal tendered an unconditional apology saying that in making such comments he has let down his constituents and the people of Bengal.
The video footage aired on television yesterday showed, Pal threatening to kill CPI-M workers and deploy his boys to rape their women folk, if a single Trinamool worker was attacked in his constituency.
