Centre sets 2-month deadline for states on IL applications

In order to improve the ease of doing business, Centre has set a deadline of two months for states to take a decision on industrial licence proposals after which the permission would deemed to be given.
"...In order to facilitate time-bound disposal of industrial license (IL) proposals, the approval of the state government shall be deemed in case of non-receipt of comments within two months of circulating the industrial licence applications," Commerce and Industry Ministry has said.
The decision was taken in the fourth licensing committee meeting held on December 2 last year.
"All the state governments are, therefore, requested to provide comments within a period of two months from the date of circulation of the proposal," it added.

India has been ranked 142 among the 189 countries in the latest report, falling two places from last year's ranking.
The government has announced series of steps to improve India's ranking and aims at bringing India into the top 50.
The government has taken many steps including issuance of checklist with specific timelines for processing applications filed by foreign investors.
