Centre should take efforts to solve Lankan Tamils problem: CPI

CPI today said that the Centre should take efforts to find a solution to the problems of Tamil population Sri Lanka, considering the changed political equation in that country.
Though there were high expectations after the defeat of Mahinda Rajapaksha and installation of Sirisena as President last year, no no development had taken place either with regard to Tamils or giving equal status on par with Sinhalese to them, CPI Tamil Nadu Secretary R Mutharasan told reporters here.
With Ranil Wickramesinghe taking charge as Prime Minister of Island Nation for the fourth time, NDA government should take serious efforts from the word go to find an amicable solution to the contentious issue, he said.
On the killing of Tamil labourers in Seshachalam in Andhra Pradesh, he sought a CBI inquiry into the incident.
Stating that the party will extend its support to the fast being observed by MDMK General Secretary Vaiko at Chennai on August 26, he said that a similar fast will be observed in Thiruvannamalai, by the newly formed five party movement, which include CPI, CPIM, MDMK, VCK and Manithaneya Makkal Katchi.
He urged the Centre to immediately intervene in the wage issue of NLC workers, who were on strike or else the power generation will be seriously affected, which will have cascading effect on industries.
