Centre to hold meeting for security in border areas

Union Home Ministry will convene an interstate council in which chief ministers of all north-eastern states are members of, to take stock of the security situation arising out of the porous international border, Union Minister of State for Home Khiren Rijiju said here today.
"We are looking for a meeting with all chief ministers in the north east to be headed by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, the interstate council, where we will take certain strategic decisions (on key issues pertaining to security)," Rijiju told reporters here.
He said the decision to convene the meeting was held recently during the joint intelligence committee meeting which he chaired, where various intelligence agencies shared strategic information key to security.
In the interstate council, the home ministry will take strategic decisions on several issues including peace talks which have been dragged for years with certain outfits, a senior home official said.
Earlier, the Union home minister chaired a review meeting with central armed forces and the state government at the Secretariat after calling on Governor K K Paul at the Raj Bhavan.
In the morning, Union Home Minister visited a border outpost of Border Security Force at Dawki, in West Jaintia Hills District to inspect and review the security along the Indo-Bangladesh International Border.
