Chana prices went up by 2.17 per cent to Rs 4,337 per quintal in futures trade today as traders enlarged holdings on account of rising demand in the spot market.

Besides, restricted arrivals of the commodity in the physical market influenced the chana prices.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, chana for delivery in this month went up by Rs 92, or 2.17 per cent up, at Rs 4,337 per quintal with an open interest of 13,660 lots.

Likewise, the commodity for delivery in September gained Rs 85, or 1.98 per cent, to Rs 4,373 per quintal in 96,580 lots.

Traders said speculators increasing holdings on hopes of a rise in spot market demand which mainly pushed up chana prices.

They said enquiries by millers at lower levels against fall in supply from the producing regions of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh further supported the uptrend.
