Chg: Three held for possessing fake currency

Police claimed to have busted an inter-state gang of fake currency racketeers and arrested three persons, including the kingpin, for allegedly possessing counterfeit notes with face value of Rs 5.60 lakh.
"The trio have been identified as Virendra Pramanik (39) who is the Ranchi-based kingpin of the racket, Elu Ram Sahu (50) and his son Amit Sahu (23), both natives of Mungeli district, and fake notes with face value of Rs 5.60 lakh were recovered from them," Raigarh City Superintendent of Police Satyendra Pandey said today.
Acting on a tip-off, police arrested Pramanik and Sahu along with counterfeit currency with face value of Rs 98,500 on Sunday night from Raigarh station while they were trying to dispose it off.

During interrogation, Pramanik confessed that he had been involved in circulation of fake currency since long time, Pandey said.
"He (Pramanik) procures fake currency from Jharkhand and disposes it off in neighbouring Jashpur, Raigarh and Bilaspur districts (in Chhattisgarh) besides in Katni region of Madhya Pradesh," the officer said.
Based on his interrogation, counterfeit currency notes having face value of Rs 4.60 lakh, along with genuine cash worth Rs 81,000, seven ATM cards, three bank pass book and as many mobiles phones were recovered from their locations in Mungeli and Ranchi, he said.
Another member of the gang, Amit was arrested from Mungeli today.

The trio were booked under section 489-A (counterfeiting currency notes or bank note) 489-B (using as genuine forged or counterfeit currency-notes or bank-notes) and 489-C (possession of forged or counterfeit currency-notes or bank-notes) of IPC, he added.
