China suspends 3 jail officials after two prisoners escape from prison

Two jail officials were suspended while the service of a jail warden was terminated after two prisoners, serving life imprisonment, manage to escape from a prison in the northeastern China's Liaoning province, according to a media report Sunday.

Wang Lei, 33, and Zhang Guilin, 39, manage to escape on Thursday from No 3 Prison in the city of Lingyuan in the Liaoning province.

"They were caught by police on Saturday in north China's Hebei Province," the state-run Xinhua news agency reported on Sunday.

Wang was sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve for kidnapping. In December 2017, his death sentence was commuted to a life sentence.

Zhang was serving a life sentence for robbery.

The warden of the prison has been terminated from his position and ordered to cooperate with the investigation, the report said.

Another official, who was in direct charge of the prison supervision, has been suspended from his post till the investigation is underway. Also, an official in charge of the stability in the prison has also been suspended from work, Xinhua reported.
