A top Chinese finance official is calling on the US Congress to approve by the end of the year funding for the International Monetary Fund that is needed to carry out a reform program that the lending agency adopted in 2010.
Zhu Guangyao, China's vice minister of finance today said that the measure would boost the IMF's financial resources so that it can lend to countries facing financial difficulties, such as Ukraine.
He says China plans to contribute to a USD 14 billion to USD 18 billion loan package that the IMF has developed for Ukraine, but did not specify an amount.
On China, Zhu says the government's priorities are battling corruption, implementing a reform program and improving the environment so Chinese people can enjoy " clear water, blue skies and green mountains.
