A number of Chinese fishermen are missing after a Chinese fishing boat today sank to the north of the disputed Diaoyu Islands in the East China Sea, Chinese Navy officials said.
The cause of the accident that took place in the morning near the islands which China calls Diaoyu and Japan Senkakus is yet to be known.
Two Chinese naval rescue vessels are heading to the scene, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
Chinese and Japanese naval ships aggressively patrol the Islands claimed by both the countries almost on daily basis, asserting their claims over the disputed territory believed to be rich in oil and gas.
