The toddler died on Thursday after battling for two days in a hospital, state television reported today.
The incident happened on Tuesday near a bus station in Beijing's Daxing district where Han threw the toddler down in a fit of anger over her mother's refusal to give space to park his car next to a bus stop.
Han, who was earlier imprisoned for theft and recently released from jail, was apprehended following the incident and detained for intentional homicide.
This enraged Han who along with his friend got out of the car, slapped the woman and flung her baby down to the horror of the bystanders before speeding off.
Virtually brain dead, the baby struggled in the ICU for two days before being declared dead.
Han could face death penalty, while his friend who have surrendered could also face stiff punishment, police said.
The incident drew wide anger and the state-run CCTV said many netizens termed Han an animal and demanded death penalty for him.
