The service, which is expected to cut down travel time between the two cities to 25 minutes, will formally start on June 1.
CMD of Pawan Hans Helicopter Services, Anil Shrivastava and Director, IIT-K, Indranil Manna jointly inaugurated the service at the campus runway this afternoon.
Five persons will be able to travel in one trip.
Manna said the services would be useful for guests and lecturers invited to speak at the university.
He said for the first three months, the institute and its alumni will bear the cost of the service. He said no decision had been taken about the fare to be charged from travellers.
