"From Autograph to Ami Aar Amar Girlfriends to Hawa Bodol, there had been positive response to new age Bengali films.. We had always been on the side of quality, Bengali films which had been promoted by the contemporary Bengali audience. Now next week's pack also promises enticing to draw the audience we prefer in droves to our Digital Projection Imaging (DPI) theatres," a spokesman of Inox, the biggest plex, said.
"People are now liking different stories, across the cities. In Bengali, in Hindi. This is something, a development, having taken place during past couple of years," Inox Leisure Ltd CEO Alok Tandon told PTI.
"We had hosted premiers of different genre Bengali films - including Srijit Mukherjee's Hemlock Society - as this has been a buoyant phase for Tollywood.
"And there will be similar initiatives in future. including our newly acquired plex at South City and commemorate Bengali cinema," Tandon, whose 73 plexes across 40 cities regularly screen quality, regional cinema, said.
"Phoring had an amazing response. Previously also other Bengali films did well. As part of our policy to promote content-rich cinema in Indian languages we will be on the side of Tollywood," a spokesman of PVR said.
