The civil societies in Nagaland and Assam today appealed to the Nagas and the Karbis to shun the path of violence in Assam's Karbi Anglong district and called for initiatives by both the State and the Centre towards bringing permanent solution at the earliest.
The meet of Naga Students' Federation, Naga Peoples' Movement for Human Rights and Naga Council Dimapur led by apex body Naga Hoho and Ahom Royal Society of Assam was held at Bookmark conference Hall in Dimapur today.
A joint statement issued late this evening by Working President of ARS Assam, Chow Kamala Raj Konwar and NH president P Chuba Ozukum said that the meeting had a threadbare discussion over the prevailing situation in Karbi-Anglong between the Karbi Community and the Rengma Naga.
The meet resolved with sincerity that normalcy and peace must be restored in the region at the earliest since both communities have co-existed in the past as indigenous people.
The meeting also appealed to both the communities to shun all sorts of violence and bloodshed between brothers once and for all and built confidence among the people.
The joint meeting implored both Assam and Central governments to work towards removing ethnic clashes and bring permanent solution at the earliest.
