A senior police officer confirmed the complaint from the guardian of the student Imran Nazir and said police personnel were sent to the institution Al-Habeeb Missionary School to inquire.
Imran complained he was beaten up by the Superintendent Majibar Rahaman who then forced him to spit on the ground and lick it for the 'crime' to escape from the hostel and smoke.
Refuting the charges, Majibar Rahaman said "I love my students like sons. I haven't asked anyone to lick his spit from ground. This was a conspiracy to malign me and my institution.
The private residential school is run by Altab Charitable Trust.
The police officer said quoting eyewitness accounts of Yasin Shaikh, a staff of the school, that the concerned student was found smoking at a place near Dhubulia rail station and Shaikh took his snap on mobile and showed it to the Superintendent.
The Superintendent then rushed to the spot with other teachers and caught Imran, a resident of Siyalkhala village under Kaliganj police station in Nadia, the officer said quoting Shaikh's accounts.
