'Clean India Mission' Secretary takes voluntary retirement

Vijay Laxmi Joshi, Secretary in the Union government in-charge of the ambitious 'Clean India Mission', today got voluntary retirement from service.

The competent authority has approved the assignment of additional charge of the post of Secretary, Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation to Rural Development Secretary Jugal Kishore Mohapatra, vice Joshi on her voluntary retirement with effect from November 21, an order issued by Department of Personnel and Training said.

Mohapatra has been given the additional charge for a period of three months or till the appointment of a regular incumbent or until further orders, whichever is the earliest, it said.

Joshi, a 1980 batch IAS officer of Gujarat cadre, had written to the government on July 14, seeking voluntary retirement with effect from October 31, 2015 to take care of her old parents.

57-year-old Joshi had about three years of service left.

She had served in various posts in the state and in the Centre. Joshi had been Joint and Additional Secretary in Commerce Ministry between 2011 and April 2014. Joshi took over as Secretary, Ministry of Panchayati Raj on May 1, last year.

She took over as Secretary, Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation from October 1, 2014. Her husband, G P Joshi, a 1978 batch IAS officer of Gujarat cadre, also took early retirement under Voluntary retirement Scheme (VRS) in 2008.
