"Awareness and early detection are the best ways to contain cancer," said Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi while inaugurating a Special Cancer Detection Camp at the Government-run Mohendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital here today.
"Prevention is better than cure. Early diagnosis will help to cure the disease resulting in longevity of life to the afflicted persons," he said.
The Chief Minister asked the officials of the health department to continue with the awareness campaign for early cancer detection to arrest the high incidence of the disease in the state.
The state government has accorded top priority to the health sector and initiated a host of schemes in scaling up health infrastructure.
"A sea-change has taken place in the health sector. However, the state has still miles to go on this front," he added.
The Chief Minister underscored the need for extending basic health care and services to the poor people, especially in the remote and far-flung areas of the state.
