CM lays foundation for World Bank aided power project

: Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy today laid the foundation of the Rs 22.03 crore World Bank funded project for conversion of low tension overhead power lines into underground cable system, covering several coastal villages in Kalapet block here.
A release of the Project Implementation Agency which has taken up the project said it was taken up under the Coastal Disaster Risk Reduction Project and funded by the World Bank.
The Agency was set up in the wake of the tsunami some 12 years ago for rehabilitation and relief works in the coastal villages in Union Territory.
The underground cable would cover around 5,230 consumers and the cable would be laid for 37 km, covering Ganapathichettykulam, Periyakalapet, Chinnakalapet and Pillaichavady in the Kalapet block.
Revenue Minister M O H F Shahjahan representing Kalapet constituency, Electricity Minister R Kamalakannan, Chief Secretary Manoj Parida and officials of the Project Implementation Agency and Electricity department were among those present.
The CM later laid the foundation of the project for 'High Tension interlink provision' for newly constructed Sub station in Venkata Nagar to cover coastal areas of Muthialpet, Solai Nagar, Gingee Salai, Vaithikuppam and Kuruchikuppam in the town limits of Puducherry.
This work also taken up by the agency is being implemented at a cost of Rs 14.90 crore available from World Bank.
