Pointing out that sports forges universal brotherhood cutting across all boundaries, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today said his government accorded top priority to development of sports and sporting infrastructure in the state.
Inaugurating the Khirod Baruah (Senior) Inter-district Football Tournament here, Sonowal said the standard of sports in general and football in particular was growing in Assam which has been aptly displayed by warm responses seen in such tournaments.
Realising this, the state government has been attaching top priority towards development of sports and sporting infrastructure in Assam and vowed to transform Guwahati as a sports capital of the country, Sonowal, a former union sports minister, said.
He also sought cooperation from all to make the U-17 FIFA World Cup matches to be held in Guwahati a success.
