The Chief Minister said that he would personally write a letter to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh for according approval of modalities by Registrar General of India (RGI) so that the timeline set for updation of NRC could be completed within 36 months.
The Chief Secretary said the Government was ready for updation of NRC 1951 and was awaiting approval of modalities by the RGI.
Political Commissioner and Secretary Prateek Hajela, who is the coordinator of NRC, apprised the Chief Minister that the office of the State Project Management Unit (SPMU) would be opened this month and two Assam Civil Service officers would be manning it.
The meeting was attended, among others, by Principal Secretary Personnel Rajib Kumar Bora, Commissioner and Secretary Home and Political G D Tripathi and Commissioner Taxes Dr J B Ekka.
