A pit of Bandingliangta Coal Mine in Daliuta Township in the resource-rich Shenmu county was flooded, the county government said in a statement.
Of the seven miners working in the pit, only one managed to escape, it said.
Rescuers are still searching for the trapped miners, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
