Cold wave continues unabated in Himachal Pradesh

The intense cold wave sweeping the hills and valleys of Himachal Pradesh continued unabated today as high altitude tribal areas and mountain passes had another spell of mild snowfall and icy winds swept the region.
High altitude tribal areas of Kinnaur, Lahaul and Spiti and Pangi received fresh snowfall while the Rohtang, Kunzam, Saach, Chansel and other high mountain passes also received snow.
The snow was accompanied by high velocity icy winds which aggravated the cold wave conditions in adjoining valleys in non tribal districts of Kullu and Kangra.
The minimum temperature ranged between minus 6 and minus 12 deg on high altitude areas while Keylong and Kalpa in tribal districts of Lahaul and Spiti and Kinnaur recorded minimum temperatures at minus 2.8 deg and minus 1 deg while Manali recorded a low of 1.2 deg, a deg below normal.
Sundernagar, Bhuntar and Solan recorded minimum temperature at 3 deg, while Una, Shimla, Nahan, Dharamsala and Palampur recorded a low of 5 deg, 6.7 deg, 7.7 deg, 7.9 deg and 8.8 deg C respectively.
However, the maximum day temperatures stayed 2 to 3 deg above normal and Bhuntar was hottest in the region with a high of 23.2 deg, followed by Sundernagar 22.5 deg, Solan 22 deg, Nahan 21.9 deg, Dharamsala 18 deg, Shimla 16.3 deg and Kalpa 10.2 deg C.
The local MeT office has predicted dry weather in the region with no significant change in mercury.
