College students murdered in suspected case of honour killing

In a suspected case of honour killing, a man and a woman studying in a Rohtak college were murdered today in a village in Haryana, police said.
While Dharmender's (23) body with its severed head was thrown outside his house in Kalanaur village in Rohtak district this evening, Nidhi (20) was cremated by her family in a hush-hush manner, police said.
The two, who were good friends and studied together in a college in Rohtak, were missing since Tuesday, sparking rumours of their marriage, officers said adding families of both the victims have fled their homes and raids were being conducted to trace their whereabouts.

As per diktat of Khap panchayats (community councils), marriages within the same village and community are not allowed.
