The Telangana government today said a committee has been appointed to suggest steps to be taken to prevent incidents like the collapse of a roof of a pump house at the Kaleswaram irrigation project in Rajanna-Sircilla district.
The committee would be headed by a former Director General of the Geological Survey of India, a state government release said.
Describing the incident as "very unfortunate", state irrigation minister T Harish Rao said the committee has been asked to suggest precautions to be taken to prevent such incidents.
At least seven workers were killed yesterday when the roof of a pump house collapsed in Rajanna-Siricilla district of Telangana.
Rao, who paid homage to the deceased workers, said the government would ensure that such incidents do not recur. Meanwhile, Telangana BJP President K Laxman, who visited the site of the incident today, alleged that the tragedy happened because minimum security standards were not maintained.
He demanded that a high-level inquiry be conducted into the incident.
He said BJP would seek appointment of a court of inquiry which comes under the Union Labour Ministry.
