It said that GeM 3.0 would offer standardised and enriched catalogue management, powerful search engine, real time price comparison, template-based bid, demand aggregation, user rating and analytics.
"GeM strives to keep pace with ever-evolving technological challenges and stake holder aspirations and in line with this endeavour, GeM is coming up with a scaled up third version," the ministry said in a statement.
The portal was launched in August 2016 for online purchases of goods and services by all the central government ministries and departments. The online marketplace is so far working on pilot version.

Further, the ministry said that coinciding with the migration to the 3.0 version, National Sellers On-boarding Campaign has been launched to train sellers/service providers for transition from GeM 2.0 to the scaled up version of the portal.
The scaling up assumes significance as public procurement of the central and state governments runs into over Rs 2 lakh crore annually.
So far, 72,941 sellers and service providers are registered with the portal to sell 4,54,853 products and services.
