"There has been a huge tension and polarisation. Such tension was never seen in the last 60-65 years after the Partition of the country," Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad told reporters.
He was speaking at the AICC briefing in which he and Leader of the party in the Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge released a 'Report Card" of the one year of the BJP government on the occasion of its first anniversary.
The Modi regime is one of "broken promises, boastful claims, shattered dreams, a nation betrayed", the AICC said detailing the promises and the actual performance in various fields from agriculture to industry, education to jobs and environment to exports.
It has also come out with a documentary that "exposes" the claims of the BJP and the government and the reality.
He said Modi not acting against a single minister who made objectionable statements tells its own story.
Azad also sought to take the wind out of Modi's claims of providing clean politics by saying that 30 per cent of the ministers in his cabinet have criminal cases against them with some of them even being charged with attempt to murder.
"It is a regressive leadership and tainted ministers," the report card said detailing the controversial statements of BJP leaders and ministers and the criminal cases against them.
Kharge said that the one year Modi rule was marked by "fears, tears and no cheers" as there were apprehensions among the farmers and working class as their plight worsened and there was nothing to cheer about for the common man.
Both Azad and Kharge alleged that the Prime Minister has been resorting to "brazen falsehoods" on several issues.
Another senior party leader Ahmed Patel, through a tweet, questioned the NDA's claim of providing clean governance.
Congress leaders and spokespersons had fanned out to various states during the past one week to "expose the misgovernance of the NDA government".
