A large number of police personnel were deployed in the town afterwards, said inspector B G Sarvaiya.
"At least three shops in the main market were set on fire by the mob. We have deployed our men across the town. We are now patrolling in that area and the situation is under control," he said.
The cause of the clash was not known yet. According to police, the entire market shut down after the clash started at around 8pm.
